Happy New School Year

Although I am (sort of) retired from teaching, the beginning of a new school season feels like New Year. My head has a fresh haircut. I took advantage of Back to School sales and stocked up on pens, journals, and festive socks. I am looking at new sneakers and contemplating buying a lunch bag, but haven’t come up with a good reason for one. Lunch is usually scheduled at home.

I haven’t had children on a school schedule in almost twenty years and I have been retired for almost four, yet the eve of the New School Year remains contagious. Getting back to routines after weeks of willy-nilly summer days is almost a relief—almost. The anticipation of a wonderful year of learning, exploring and discovery palpates. I can’t help but feel a renewal.

My To-Do List contains updated goals for the fall, contacts to contact, and scribblings of yet more big ideas. I created activity sheets and curriculum connections for my books, updated web pages, and started a possible project. Stay tuned for announcements.

How about you? Does the Back to School season renew your goals?

  1. My school year is off to a good start so far. I know what you mean about the start of the school term and its magic. The smell of sharpened pencils, and boxed crayons, not to mention the texture of construction paper and writing paper just waiting to be written and drawn on.
