Does one ever grow out of picture books? Are they really just for little kids because they are simple and quick reads? Uhhh…NO!
Teachers and parents of big kid readers, consider these points before you pack away your picture books.
*Picture books are a feast for the eyes, with beautifully crafted illustrations that bring stories to life.
*Picture books often tackle complex themes and emotions in a concise and relatable manner, fostering empathy and understanding.
*Picture books are a testament to the art of storytelling. They require careful word choice, rhythm, and pacing to engage all readers.
*Picture books often contain layers of meaning that extend beyond the surface level, making them thought-provoking reads, sparking meaningful discussions and reflections.
*Picture books provide opportunities for shared reading experiences. They create lasting memories and foster relationships between parents and children, teachers and students, and friends.
Don’t let the “picture book” label stop you from picking one up and reading to your group of tween and teens. May they and you never grow too old to dive into the magical world of picture books.

Hi, Antoinette – I’m with you in your love for picture books. I have kept most of my son’s old picture books up on our guest bedroom bookshelf. They are a big hit with family and friends who come to visit so they remain in constant use!

I read picture books all the time and share them with my adult children and nearly adult grandchildren. I don’t think anyone is too old to read a good picture book. My favorite? We Don’t Eat Our Classmates. Such a funny book.
