Good morning Everyone. It’s a beautiful day on the south shore of Long Island. I am attempting to reconnect writing and reading routines in the wake of my daughter’s wedding, Famous Seaweed Soup’s book release, spring cleanup, and getting the boats launched for the season. I look forward to reading your coffee shares, so I’ll make this quick. Pour your brew, let’s catch up.
If we were having coffee together, I would tell you that the Famous Seaweed Soup Virtual Launch Party was fun to pull off. We had special guests, games, prizes and insights about the book journey. You can view Famous Seaweed Soup Then and Now video here. Big thanks to all who came and Great BIG thanks to the staff at Purple Butterfly Press. Unfortunately, the next day revealed a technical glitch with distribution. It may take a while to untangle the mess. If you need a copy of Famous Seaweed Soup, please email me (atmartin@stories-served.com). I have stock.
If we were having coffee together, I would say I’ve been flower hunting with my Mom and sisters. My niece is getting married in Mom’s backyard next month and Mom wants the yard to pop with color. We took a ride to the Peconic Herb Farm which has become our Mother’s Day tradition. It is a lovely farm with a wide variety of perennials and annuals and is next to the river. Last year the crowds made it difficult for mom to navigate through the selections on her scooter. This year we ventured a week before Mother’s Day. Although easy to get around, the selection was sparse, and the roses had not yet arrived. We bought a few annuals and had a picnic by the river—a great day. The local garden centers are getting their stock, so we’ve been shopping—a good way to get mom out and busy with dirt and flowers.
Mother’s Day is a little bittersweet for us. Dad’s birthday usually lands on the day, reminding us how much we miss him.
Today, my daughter, Sara, and sisters’ and nieces’ families will converge at Mom’s house for a barbecue. We have little grand nephews and niece to play with. Maybe someone will catch a fish off the dock.
Happy Mother’s Day to the nurturing mommies. We are lucky to have them.
That’s it, Everyone. How have you been?
Great BIG Thanks and appreciation go out to Natalie the Explorer who keeps the Weekend Coffee Share percolating.
