Ramblings & Writing, Weekend Coffee Share

Anniversary Coffee Share

Good morning, Everyone. How is your coffee on this blustery wet morning? Matt and I are at Davis Park; a cozy beach community on Fire Island (just a quick boat ride across the Great South Bay). We are staying in our friend’s cottage for the weekend overlooking the ocean.

There is no better place to be than the beach. The endless sky, thundering crash of the ocean and constant sea breeze bring rhythm and calm to my being. Petty thoughts and the to-do clutter take a back-burner position. The needs of the day are basic; a beach walk, writing time, visiting friends, marveling at the beauty, a bit of food and wine and, of course, coffee.

Yesterday the wind was more than blustery. It was downright howling, whipping the ocean into a frenzy. I could not get into the wild surf. It was a bit cold as well. Soon.

Matt and I are celebrating our 40 year Wedding Anniversary. I keep saying we were children when we got married just three weeks after college graduation. We were. Together we took on grown-up responsibilities with naive exuberance. From the beginning, the pursuit of fun was always paramount. We were blessed to have our families near offering practical advice which we took in small doses. Our three daughters gave us reasons to keep on playing. They have been the best decisions we ever made. We worked, built homes, sailed, fished, carpooled, fretted, celebrated, raised a glass in joy and sorrow, tantrum over frustrations, and learn to compromise and prioritize. We’ve traded off being each other’s rock to get us through life trials. Marriage is a lot of work. Anything worthwhile is a lot of work.

Yet it does not seem like forty years. Although we have lost our hair color and gain pounds everywhere, I still feel we are a couple of kids pell-melling through life together collecting laughter and looking for the next adventure.

So here is to us. Forty years of living life with love and fun.

Thanks for joining me on my anniversary musings.

As always, BIG THANK YOUs go out to, Eclectic Alli for managing Weekend Coffee Share.

Have a good week, Everyone. Make it great!

  1. Hello Antoinette. Bravo and reaching 40 with your guy. My wife and I are right behind you two with our 40th this coming December. I’m lifting a glass to celebrate even the few of your fine accomplishments I know about and smile to think about your 40th. What lives we live. What wakes we must leave behind. I suspect your wakes have all left thee world a much better place. I know I’m very glad to have ridden a few of your waves in the past couple of years.
    Congratulations.

  2. Big congratulations on your Ruby Wedding.
It was ours on the 22nd June.
I was a young soldier on £80 pcm. Joy is nine years older than me and had three kids from a previous marriage at the time. I was about to go on an unaccompanied tour in the days when communication wasn’t as easy as it is today. It was tough going and everybody said that it wouldn’t last. Perhaps it won’t. It’s only been forty years! Haha!
