I jumped in the NaBloPoMo18 daily blog challenge for the remainder of November. Better late than never. Thank you shout outs go to Hareem Sumbul and Angela Kennedy for reviving the challenge and letting me join in ten days late.
Prompt: A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, don’t you think?
“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”- William Shakespeare
True, in the semantic sense. A rose is just as romantic, beautiful, and aromatic even if it called by its scientific name–Rosa. OK, so that example lacks the oomph to the point.
How about soda? Soda by any other name would be as fizzy. Not necessarily so. When I ordered a diet soda in a Midwest cafe and was served a tall glass of seltzer.
How about veranda? It sounds so elegant. The spelling is also lovely with three syllables using easy mid-vowels. A veranda is the same functional part of a house as a stoop. But stoop is not a pretty sounding combination of phonemes and is susceptible to plosive spitting.
So it seems that rose is a perfectly sweet name for a rose.
