Weekend Coffee Share 7-21-18

Good Morning, Everyone. Join me for a virtual cup of coffee. The sun is up, and the birds and squirrels are chattering. I wonder what all the excitement is about.

I had a big travel week last week. It started with a flight to visit my daughter and grandkids on Hilton Head Island. The kids grow too fast without me. I miss them terribly. When I returned home, I kissed my husband goodbye, again, and set off on a flight to Chicago. There I met my dear friend and first college roommate, Renee. After all these years, we can easily catch up where we last left off; a true soul sister. She drove us to her lakeside cottage in Lake Geneva Wisconsin. I had never been to Wisconsin. The cheese was good, but the lake was vast and lovely. Now I may be a bit of a snob when it comes to the seaside (the Great South Bay and Fire Island shores are in my opinion, the best and most breathtaking places on Earth), but Lake Geneva was a beautiful water haven. The big excuse for visiting Renee was the Beachside Authorfest at Lake Geneva. We set up a table and tent that overlooked the lake on the library grounds. Attendance was a bit light because of the nasty forecast, but by early afternoon the day cleared up. I did not sell as many books as I had hoped, but I chatted with a lot of people and hopefully made some good connections. The visit with Renee, however, was a priceless adventure.

Back at the homestead, I caught up on the yard and house chores and tried to get in hours of writing. The Camp NaNoWriMo is not going as well as I had hoped. The constant need to research more details is getting in the way. I am suspecting that these obsessive detours are just that-detours.

Breast cancer awareness month approaches, although breast cancer does not have any awareness of Pink-tober. It is, however, the season to promote my book, Hug Everyone You Know. I need to follow up on my contacts and get involved with the metastatic breast cancer events in my area.  

In the meantime, Beach Week is coming up. This year we are renting two weeks in our beach pal’s cozy cottage on Fire Island. Several of our friends are also renting at the same time. We will play, sail, swim, collect beach glass and eat with the salt air reviving our friendships. I am putting together menus and trying to get a head start on the packing, cooking, and freezing. Yesterday, I got an advanced taste by volunteering my wagons and self to help my cousins and nieces’ families move into their beach cottages for their first week. It’s a big haul to get kids, clothes, food, booze, and toys to the beach when the only access is by ferry or personal boat. Before leaving the beach, I had a glass of wine (Okay, two) and a glorious dip in the ocean (no sharks).
