A search for my maternal great-grandfather’s mother, Margherita, pulled me down the genealogy rabbit hole.
Finding ancestors is not a linear search. Although it takes one man and one woman to produce one child, the route to that child can be a meandering path. Relationships are sloppy in today’s world, but I discovered they are just as sloppy over two hundred years ago within my family branches. Partners connected and disconnected because of death, eccentricity, emotional and social variables, and the whims of the moment. The non-linear tracings appeared as the norm, making their stories so interesting.
