Blue Woman Burning: Book Review

Blue Woman Burning

by Lâle Davidson

Red Penguin Books

Get comfortable. You are going to love reading this debut novel.

Blue Woman Burning travels from the high altitudes of the Chilean Altiplano, through New York City streets and upstate New York, into the desert and finally, Los Angeles. Each place is beautifully described so that one feels the oxygen-starved altitudes, congested cities, frightening springs pools and circus tents. Over a thirteen year span, Fallon and her brothers are haunted by witnessing the magical disappearance of their mother. Their journeys to the truth are as diverse as their perceived recollection of the event. Davidson enthralls readers with the memories, the agonies, and grief as the mystery unravels. It is a fascinating story.

I am trying my hand in writing book reviews. Writers are first readers. It is important to share book reviews so that fellow readers may be able to find their next great read. Thanks to  Deb from Deb’s WorldJo from And Anyways, Donna from Retirement Reflections and Sue from Women Living Well After 50 for co-hosting the Whats on Your Bookshelf Challenge. Every third Thursday PM (Northern Hemisphere)/ Every third Friday PM (Southern Hemisphere) of the month, one can share in the comments, a blog post, or on other social media platform. Join in and be sure to include the hashtag #whatsonyourbookshelfchallenge so your link is included in the posts.

My preferred reading genres are women’s fiction and historical fiction. Since I am currently writing children’s stories I am also reading a lot of fiction and non-fiction picture books to middle grade novels. I aim offer quick and honest impressions of the books.

Enjoy ❤️.   Like 👍.  Share 😊.

Becoming America’s Food Stories

Hope you are hungry. Becoming America’s Food Stories recalls the tales that have been told around my family’s dinner table. The histories explain the motivations over bowls of macaroni, antics play out while slurping soup, and laughter echoes throughout the dining room. Pull up a seat. There’s always room.
The Heart of Bakers and Artists is set in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, 1911. The story follows nine-year-old Lily, an American-born child of Sicilian immigrants, who wants to prove she is not a little kid. To be a big kid in the crowded tenement neighborhoods, she must tackle bigotry, bullies, disasters, dotty bakers, and learn to cross the street by herself
The Dreams of Singers and Sluggers picks up where The Heart of Bakers and Artists left off.Lily has big dreams to sing out with her powerful voice, but must do EVERYTHING, since Mama fell into a deep depression, the baby is sick, and the “Black Hand” terrorizes the neighborhood, threatening her chance to sing at the New York Highlanders Fourth of July baseball game.
Antoinette Truglio Martin is the author of Hug Everyone You Know: A Year of Community, Courage, and Cancer. The memoir is a wimpy patient’s journey through her first year of breast cancer treatment.

  1. Hi, Antoinette – Thank you for joining us at #WOYBS. I am delighted to see that you are writing more book reviews. Based on this one alone you are a very talented reviewer. I agree that reviews are important to writers and to fellow-readers. I have discovered some of my favourite reads this way!

  2. Thanks for linking up with us. This one sounds interesting – and mystical. I’m a shocker at writing reviews and really need to make more of an effort to do so.

    1. I decided not to retell or synopsis the books. Just a quick review that Amazon and Goodreads readers read. I am so impressed with the breath of your group’s book lists and reads. I strive to be able to explore books that well.
Thanks a bunch for doing the challenge.
