Weekend Coffee Share; Labor Day Weekend

Good Morning, Everyone.

Grab a strong cup of coffee. It is Friday and the last week of summer break has ended. Teacher Orientation Day is on Tuesday, and the kids start on Wednesday morning. Although I truly love summer, it will be good for head, soul, and pocketbook to get back to work and structure. It feels like New Year. Management and organizational resolutions are whispering hopeful schemes. I bought spankin’ new notebooks, fresh gel pens, dry erase markers, and paperclips. This school year, I am assigned as the special education teacher for our kindergarten class (my favorite age range) and will pick up several speech cases (I am also a speech/language therapist). My school family is exceptional. The 2018-2019 school year looks great.

My coffee is cold already. Let’s get another cup. It’s been a week! I had to venture into the city to get diagnostic scans done on Monday. I am getting pretty good at navigating the subway. It was a long day of poking, prodding, and lying still. When it was all done, my daughter met me, and we found our way to the Mermaid Inn on 86th Street for happy hour oysters and colorful drinks.

I’m back. It is now the afternoon, and it is time and cool enough for another cup of coffee. As I look around my kitchen, I have to admit that had not made a dent in the house cleaning this summer. The spider webs are heavy with dust. It will wait, as it always does.

While we are sitting here, I’d tell you that the boat sagas continue. The Herreshoff’s tiller was delivered last night. Today we fit it on the rudder. The wind is howling from the east, so we will not be able to sail.  We are selling our power boat- a 22 foot Twin Vee Power Cat. Matt and my dad have been working on electrical issues, and I finished the general cleaning. It looks great. It just needs a new owner to play with.

I must tell you the tomatoes have been wonderful. Tomato sandwiches on white bread toast and a smear of mayonnaise have been a satisfying breakfast and lunch this week. Matt will be pickling the cherry peppers and okra soon.

This Sunday, I will be at the Davis Park Arts and Craft Show all afternoon, Hug Everyone You Know. The show is an annual event to cap off the summer at this beach community. There will be amazing handcrafted jewelry, paintings, artisan crafts, and photographs to browse through and purchase. I will have swag to give away and my books and journals to sell. Getting my wares safely to the beach is the challenge. Davis Park is on Fire Island and only accessible by boat. Praying for fair weather and calm wind.

This upcoming week, I am participating in the Fall eBook Sale. She Writes Press is celebrating the one year Fall 2017 Book Birthdays. Amazon has Hug Everyone You Know eBook for ninety-nine cents from August 31 to September 7th.

Good Morning, again Everyone. It is now Saturday morning and I am sipping a hot cup of coffee with you. So much for my plan to post early.  Between putting the holiday weekend plans into action and writing the ads and e-newsletters to get the word out about the show and sale, my production has been labored.  Editing is even slower. Just when I think I am done, mistakes blare out. I do use Grammarly to help with editing, but it is not as comprehensive as I had hoped. Does anyone have an editing extension or app they like?

Well, that’s it for this week. Once again, thank you, Eclectic Alli for managing Weekend Coffee Share.

Have a good weekend and week, Everyone. Make it great.

  1. A strong cup of coffee is a great way to start the day. I have to admit that I love back to school shopping, I have a small addiction to stationary supplies. I am not sure if that is a thing for anyone else.

I think being in the kindergarten classroom would be a very fun, funny and rewarding area to teach and assist. I am sure you will have some great stories to share as the school year progresses.

  2. Hello Antoinette,
kindergarteners, gel pens, boating and tomato sandwiches (except I like a bit of fresh basil aboard), but not okra! Wars have been fought wit okra, not “over” but “with”. My understanding is that; other than tarmac, the only good use for okra is for deadly ammo. Wasn’t it outlawed by the Geneva convention though?

It is always a delight to share a cup of hot, warm or cold coffee with you. Hope you have a great year with those kiddos.

    1. Ha! In my house okra is only worth the trouble when pickled and used as a garnish in a Bloody Mary. Thank you for your kind words.

  3. Kindergarten is my favorite age range as well! I worked as a kindergarten teacher before being blessed with my daughter. It’s such a fun age! I like the innovative way you created this post. Cheers to a wonderful new week.
