Weekend Coffee Share 6-30-18

Good morning, Everyone. It’s a beautiful summer morning. I hope everyone has a chance to enjoy this beautiful day.

If we were having coffee together, I would report that my first week of summer break started with me stepping on a rusty nail. Within two days I was in the hospital for IV antibiotic therapy. If you know me, you would know that if treatment involves vein hunting, then I’m crying. Luckily, there was no bone involvement, so I was able to hobble out of the hospital within a few days. I was supposed to stay off my feet, but, HA!, that does not come easy. Hopefully, your summer started better.

If we were having coffee together, I could tell you that even though I had to wear a foot boot, I sailed with Nellie Bly crew on Tuesday night. It was a beautiful night and always a great sail with this all-gal crew. By Wednesday I felt good enough to secure the foot boot velcro straps and get on the Cross Island Ferry at Orient Point. My husband, Matt, and I visited my newly-wedded sister and husband in Rhode Island. They have been boasting about the incredible lobsters and oysters. They were right. I did not think I could eat a five-pound lobster by myself, but I did!

We spent the night on an Airbnb boat in Providence which we thought would be an enjoyable adventure rather than a predictable hotel. The 45’ boat looked great online, but in reality, needed some work. We met the owner, who had a small fleet of houseboats and yachts for his Airbnb business. He was an engaging character living life on his own terms. The boats do not leave their dock slips, so he did not have to worry about engines working. It did not seem that he worried about much, including the brightwork, gel coating, and general hatch, head, and hull maintenance. We wondered if the boat we stayed on had an engine. No matter, it was a lot of fun exploring with Barbara and John. 

If we were having another cup of coffee, I would still be talking about boats. Our Herreshoff catboat, the Bella Vela, was launched on Friday. We will step the mast and get the sails on today. The weather promises perfect conditions for the first 2018 sail. Once the boat is ready, I can establish a routine to put in some quality writing time and continue to promote my book, Hug Everyone You Know. I just arranged to attend the July 14th Beachside Authorfest at Lake Geneva in Wisconsin. Why Wisconsin? My dear friend who lives in Chicago and has a lake house on Lake Geneva scouted this out for me. I can’t wait to visit my pal and meet new Mid-west friends.

I finished drinking two cups of coffee, but I almost forgot to add that I signed up for the Camp NaNoWriMo. This is a FREE virtual writing retreat designed to get a writing project started and hopefully finished. It may drive me into a crazy writing frenzy, but I just may need that right now.
