Weekend Road Trip

Good morning, Everyone, (although it is almost afternoon). I am in a car traveling south on I-95 heading for South Carolina. My daughter is driving, the two grandkids are strapped in the backseat and are incredibly patient and fun car travelers. Pour your coffee. Let’s catch up. 

If we were having coffee together, I would quickly fill you in. The grandkids had a spring break last week and with no day care and the ability to work remotely, my daughter and son-in-law packed the car and drove to Long Island. Son-in-law had to fly back early in the week, but kids and daughter stayed. We day tripped to the Long Island Aquarium (reserved time slot), hiked in the Quogue Wildlife Center, visited cousins, and played with little downtime. Note the photos. Needless to say, I happily got little work done so I have little to report.

If we were having coffee together, I would mention that since I am now fully vaccinated, I am feeling footloose even while wearing a mask. I am typing in the car (not my favorite thing). The trip to South Carolina is about 15 hours. Sunday looks good for a beach day. Oh boy, I am having trouble keyboarding while traveling in a car. Blahh!

We made it! The kids were great during the 13.5 hour trip. Son-in-law had pizza waiting for us and, whew, I need to unfold my legs and back and perhaps get some sleep. I will sign off here.

  7. wow 13+ hours in a car seat is a haul for kids. We used to orchestrate a family visit from Colorado to California twice a year in a minivan. We had fun, but my wife used to “manage” the kids with bags of distractions that she would pull out ever other hour or so. There were also long stretches of kid-centric music and songs that have been permanently etched into my brain.
    Great memories, but I have to admit I prefer my long drives now to be almost silent to allow thoughts of my own to just churn around.

  8. Everyone has their own space and entertainment system so the trips are not as contenious as they were when my kids were young.

  9. I know the long rides. We went to Georgia last month then on to Florida. About 1500 miles all together. I’ve never used the laptop in the car but I did do some hand sewing on this trip to finish up some Easter gifts!

  11. You are an awesome grandmother because that’s what Grandma’s do…what a trip…but you did it and for all the right reasons, getting to connect with family. That is so precious.

  12. We doing a similar trip (from CT to the southern tip of North Carolina) in June to see my sister. I thought about going during spring break which was last week for us but with all our quarantine requirements still in place that would have made it harder for my son to go back to school. Now I just can’t wait for the school year to end so we can head south, see our family, and relax on the beach. Enjoy your trip!

    1. Now that me and my peeps are all vaccinated, I and state quarantine requirements relaxed, I am planning planning planning on going anywhere.
