Coffee in the Low Country

Good afternoon, Everyone. I’m sorry to be a bit late with posting, but I have been on a roll.

If we were having coffee together, I’d invite you to take a seat and an afternoon coffee break. I’ll fill you in.

You can join in the Inlinkz Link Party Weekend Coffee Share (free!), comment and share your news.

As you may know, I am living on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for two months. My daughter’s family, that includes the precious grandchildren, live here. My husband, Matt, and I took on an apartment nearby the kids and closer to the beach. At first, I aimed to see the grandkids every day, pick them up from school and daycare, provide a little speech help, homework assistance, and a few privileges the parents may wince at. I also gave myself self-imposed challenges to take sunrise over the ocean pictures each morning, and write—really write.

I have seen the kids every day and engaged in a little Nonny and PopPop nonsense. Shh- don’t tell the parents (they don’t get around to reading my blog so I may be getting away with a lot).

I decided that I can forfeit the sunrise pics when morning temps dip under 35 degrees with gale-force winds and heavy cloud cover and/or when the rain pours. I missed two mornings this week.

If we were having coffee, I can finally announce that I finished the rough draft of Daily Bread, my middle-grade novel. I have a load of editing, notes, and gaps to address, but the story is done as of 12:26 pm today. A celebration was in order. Matt and I took our bicycles (Matt sports a very cool semi-recumbent cycle) to the Sea Shack for  awesome fried grouper sandwich. We pedaled back to the oceanside to sip Hurricanes and Margaritas at the Tiki Hut. The rain sprinkled but it did not stop the live band, conversation, or sipping. We biked back to the apartment (a quick five-minute excursion) and came home with soggy bottoms and in need of strong coffee before the kids arrive with kisses and pizza.

Life is good.

Big thank yous go out to Ecelic Ali for keeping the Weekend Coffee Share up and running. I am honored to help out so we can all write, read, and learn together.

Have a good weekend and week, Everyone. Make it great.

    1. Yes, this time of year is considered off season which is perfect season for this Yankee, absent of snow and freezing temps.

  1. I extra love your phrase “a few privileges the parents may wince at.” I get it. We are the grandparents after all. Yes, a bit of “nonsense.” What a hard life! Sea Shack, Hurricanes and Margaritas. Yes, life is good. Thank you for sharing, Antoinette. I am looking forward to hearing more about your book.

    1. Thank you! I do like editing since the story is fleshed out. It works faster than composing . Thanks for reading.
