August Morning Coffee Share

Good morning, Everyone. It is a lovely Sunday morning on the south shore of Long Island. Temperatures cooled, and the humidity is at a reasonable level. The windows are opened, and the AC is off!.  Pour yourself a cup of morning brew, and I’ll catch you up. 

If we were having coffee together, I would tell you that I came home from South Carolina on Monday and spent most of the week cleaning and catching up on bills, garden, and family happenings. Between Beach Week and the Carolina visit, I had been away for almost three weeks. I do my miss my grandchildren, but I am glad to be home. The cat greeted me with hisses but soon forgave my absence once I fed him and cleaned out his litter box.

If we were having coffee together, I would admit that I did get some sailing in this week. Matt and I took out the Bella Vela on a perfect afternoon. Sometimes it is nice to just sail to nowhere. I raced on the all-gal Nelly Bly crew Tuesday night and crewed on the same boat for the Charity Regatta on Saturday. There is one more Sunfish sailboat race scheduled for this Wednesday.  The best part of these events is that the competition is friendly. There is no yelling. I am excited if I get over the start line on time. The rest of the ride is just fun. 

If we were having coffee together, I would report that I am trying to get a handle on my writing. I did post a short boat story from my childhood. You can read Memory of Water Skiing here. Sally Cronin’s Smorgasbord Blog Magazine is featuring one of my posts each Thursday for a month. Here is the link to the first one. Check out her blog magazine. There are many recipes, book reviews, and musings from many voices. I am also preparing for a blog tour with Women On Writing. I had submitted all of the detailed info and now need to write up some short essays. The only reluctance I have is writing about cancer. If I learned anything about the book journey with Hug Everyone You Know, is that an author must not only write well but be able to speak to the subject and audience the book is intended. In other writing news, I think I am five or six chapters away from finishing the rough draft of my middle-grade novel, Daily Bread. I kept on getting sidetracked with more detailed research. I may need to plan another trip to the Tenement Museum very soon.
