Kids and Heat Coffee Share

Good morning, Everyone.

I have been in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, watching my grandchildren this past week. Their daycares are on hiatus, so I’m happily filling in. We have been very busy baking cupcakes, going to the library and children’s museums, and finishing school shopping all while trying to keep some semblance of a schedule (HA!). My granddaughter, Lily, is five years old and will start Kindergarten on Monday. I am sticking around to watch her walk into this milestone. We have been practicing alphabet, number, cutting, pasting, and watercolor paintings skills. She is very ready. Teddy, my 22-month-old grandson, is a solid bundle of sunshine. Nothing is sweeter than hearing him say “Hi Nonny!” each time he sees me. He runs fast, just about mastered jumping with air between his two feet and the floor, and insists on tackling the stairs. Lowcountry houses feature lots of stairs.

I had hoped to get more outside time in, but the South Carolina heat is incredibly oppressive. I would have never believed that the beach was too hot to enjoy, but it is! I don’t know how people ride bicycles and play tennis and golf in the middle of a +97° day with +100% humidity. Perhaps it is my northern blood and/ or, most likely, the relentless hot flashes, but I am genuinely melting in this sultry heat.  So, I plan our outings around air-conditioned venus and hope the thunderstorms may cool down the temperature. Weather aside, I am loving this time I am able to spend with my babies.

Needless to say, not much writing has happened this week. I did get news at Sally Cronin will feature four of my blog posts in her Smorgasbord Blog Magazine. The first story will appear on August 22nd. A new story will be posted each Thursday until September 12th. Stay tuned for the links.

I hope all is well and cool with everyone this morning. The day awaits. Lily needs her hair brushed, and Teddy insists on sharing his soggy Cheerios with me (So great!).
