Writing Plans #WeekendCoffeeShare 1-20-19

Good Morning, Everyone. It’s a nasty morning here on the south shore of Long Island. The snowblower is ready, and the electric heater for the bird bath has kept the ice at bay. Right now the raining is falling furiously, and I woke to thunder and lighting. I am grateful for my cozy house and the coffee.

If we were having coffee together, I would tell you that it was a short week for me since I took a personal day on Monday to fly back to New York from five-year-old birthday celebrations in South Carolina. Five years sped by quickly. Even though my daughter’s family had just visited for the holidays, it warmed my heart to see my 15-month grandson recognized me and that my granddaughter was so excited to have her nonny and grandpa come for her birthday. The long distant grandparenthood is rough.

If we were having coffee together, I would report that I made some decisions on my writing. The middle-grade story is taking on a whole life of its own. However, I cannot do it justice. Between work and home responsibilities, I find my brain cannot think past nine o’clock. I am going to let the story play out in my head until the summer when I hope to get at least the rough draft completed.

In the meantime, I will continue to blog. The posts are short yet keep my writing brain exercised. I also feel validated with all of the feedback and am learning a lot by reading the bloggers I follow. I enjoy writing the weekly Weekend Coffee Share. It gives me a deadline and way to review my journal.

This week my brother-in-law, Gary Solomon,  had written a sweet piece on his childhood memory, titled A Flippers Paradise. He let me edit and share it on Stories Served Around The Table.  My blog had initially been established to collect stories. The stories I posted had come from my memories or been told to me. My voice rang through. When I posted Gary’s, I heard a new voice which was so refreshing for the blog! This got me thinking that I could put my writing energies into a theme for February.

Here is the pitch: Stories from our childhood bind our past to our present. We reflect on the lessons learned, the joys and sorrows, the achievements and transgressions. The stories shape who are and may guide us on who we strive to be. During February, I will feature stories of childhood play and revelations. If you would like to join in, email me and we can share the stories around the table.  Please note; you do not have to be related to me to join in.

Thank you, Everyone,  for reading and joining me for coffee.

And a big THANK YOU to, Eclectic Alli for managing Weekend Coffee Share.

Have a good week, Everyone. Make it great.

  1. Hi, Antoinette – If we were having coffee together, I would definitely linger and stay indoors with you. The weather sounds dreadful! I hope you have had sunnier skies since. I look forward to following your February Series. Childhood memories are perfect for sharing around the table!
