Q was a challenge. I’ll apologize in advance for the overuse of adjectives and subliminal imagery.
Remember the book Real Men Don’t Eat Quiche? It was a tongue-in-cheek satire masculine stereotypes.
I have baked and eaten many quiches. I believe it is a delicious metaphor for the perfect man. First off, there is the pie shell. The pie shell is the stable boundary, protective, yet yielding when needed. Nature’s best foods—eggs, cream, and an overload of cheese are the heart of the quiche. These nourishing goodies are whipped together and seasoned until all of the savory flavors are harmoniously blended. Sautéed broccoli or artichokes could be added for variety sake, but it is not a requirement. Bacon, however, is a requirement. There can never be too much strong and dependably delicious bacon in a quiche.
Quiche is best served hot and, if necessary, could be easily warmed up when dead cold. It could be enjoyed sitting leisurely at the table with a plate and fork or fast and furiously, held in one hand, on the run.
Enjoy.
Welcome to my Blogging A-Z April 2018 Challenge. My theme is Food Stories Remembered because there is always a story when food is involved. I consider myself a good home cook with a great appetite for hearty food. I have witnessed the creation of favorite recipes in friends’ kitchens and have learned from the best—my mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. Recipes may be included. I am remaining uncommitted on this because when I cook, I seldom measure. If you try any of my recipes, you are cooking at your own risk. Grab a glass of wine. Hope you’re hungry!
Antoinette Truglio Martin is the author of Hug Everyone You Know: A Year of Community, Courage, and Cancer. The memoir is a wimpy patient’s journey through her first year of breast cancer treatment.
I love a good quiche and must make one again soon. The ones I can buy don’t have as much cheese in them as I like. Happy to have found your blog. I’m going to check out your book now.

I make quiche sometimes with caramelised onions instead of bacon. Might not be authentic but still nice.
I do remember the book 🙂

Tempted to read “Real men…” after your short fiction. You have a really nice, breezy narrative/voice. Enjoyed reading this one and will explore more …

Every year our scout troop does a pie auction, and my husband makes a couple of quiches for it. No lie–they go for hundreds of dollars. It’s ridiculous! But real men DO eat quiche. Great post! Melanie’s Stories

Honestly, I’ve never made a quiche. I like it. I’ll order it at a restaurant or eat when someone else serves it. Maybe that should be on my bucket list… And yes, bacon.

You can never have too much bacon in your quiche. It’s my favorite kind. Weekends In Maine

Q was a tough one. I did QUIZ. Hey, if you’d done a Quiche Quiz, we’d have given you extra credit and let you off the hook for X. I’m enjoying your posts, Antionette.

You made me realise I haven’t made quiche for years. Yes I order it with a bit of salad when out but you have inspired me. Is there a low cal version I wonder?
